Astrology for October 2006 by Susan Heinz, Astrologer

As we move more deeply into this 8 year purification, (2004-2012), flushing the old paradigms out of the recesses of our consciousness, we begin, under the challenge of the Saturn/Neptune opposition, to focus our attention on a much greater understanding of who we really are. We confront the mechanism and policies that have limited and oppressed our identities. A Moslem imam, Aka Kahn, who lives in France, calls this time, a time of “conflict of ignorance”. Under the Saturn/Neptune opposition, more people focus their attention and pierce through the veils of deception and denial to perceive and live in truth. This is the challenge before us and our bridge into the Aquarian Age, the new Great
Cycle of the Mayans, called the 5th Sun, or what the Mongolian tradition calls the movement into the Era of Women.

Just as Copernicus did over 500 years ago, when he said the sun was the center of the solar system, not the earth, the cosmologists are now redefining who we are as being a central player in a radically different description of our universe. They are expanding our identity into a much larger sense of who we are and the significance of our role and consciousness, not only on earth, but also in this expanding universe in which we live. “consciousness is limited by
identity and identity is limited by ignorance. Most people tend to identify themselves with fairly narrow categories – a nationality, a race, a religion – which leads not only to conflicts but also to a stunting of imagination and potential. The wider sense of identity, the more likely we will be to experience our genuine connection to the universe… we humans are luminous stardust beings” living on and through this mysterious, intelligent planet Earth in an intelligent living light filled universe. (Joel Primack and Nancy Ellen Abrams in their new book, “The View from the Center of the Universe”, also see cosmologist, Brian Swimme’s books).

Now is a particularly potent time of awakening to truth. The Fall Equinox chart emphasized the planet, Uranus, in Washington DC, causing unexpected surprises, breakthroughs, and awakenings. Look at these events, the releasing of a report saying that the Iraq war has caused more terrorism, Hugo Chavez saying President Bush is the devil, President Musharraf of Pakistan saying the U.S. told him that if they don't do what the U.S. wants they will be bombed back to the Stone Age, the Clintons taking a stand against Bush rhetoric. These outbreaks of crisis in Washington DC will continue through out the fall.

President Bush’s Venus, the planet of popularity and relationship, is challenged by Saturn. He is entering an even more intense time of difficulty with the public and relationships in general through July, 2007. Hugo Chavez and Bush are an interesting astrological study, exhibiting how Chavez fits karmicly into Bush’s life. Chavez’s Cancer Moon conjoins Bush’s Cancer Sun and Hugo’s Leo Sun is conjoins George’s Leo Ascendant, and Mercury. These links join them on the world stage.

Two interesting features define their international interactions. Hugo’s planet of revolution, change and awakening, Uranus, conjuncts Bush’s Saturn, representing his executive authority, control, but also his self doubt and
vulnerability. Hugo challenges and stimulates Bush’s Saturn. Hugo’s Pluto is on George’s Venus in Leo. Hugo’s intensity and drive to individuate focuses itself through uncovering what is hidden in Bush’s presentation to the public.

Saturn now focuses on the test of courage and leadership, demanding inner strength to persevere. Severe tests will come to false leaders. Jupiter in Scorpio intensifies this. As Jupiter squares Saturn at the end of the month, pressure is brought to bear on government structures and all forms that have been built up since 2000 and now must be adjusted, released and transformed for successful fulfillment in 2010.

Mercury enters Scorpio October 1st and brings more investigations, probing for truth. Mercury goes retrograde on October 28, next to Jupiter in Scorpio, increasing the effort for truth seeking. When Mercury goes retrograde in water signs the quality of life is examined, opportunities are present to rethink old habit patterns and emotional responses to life challenges. Deep reflection, dream analysis and journal writing is very effective now. Relationship and intimacy issues arise for reflection and transformation. Time to forgive.

The full moon takes place on the 6th in impulsive yet courageous Aries. The new moon in Libra on the 21st is quite extraordinary with Venus and Mars aligning with the Sun and Moon. The emphasis is on justice, balance, harmonizing and diplomacy. Venus and Mars conjunct in Scorpio on the 24th. Relationships are now in a very dynamic phase. Venus and Mars create a mating of value and action, love and desire in the transformative sign of Scorpio.
